UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship: Research & Development Lead for Active VTOL Crash Prevention Ltd.

Active VTOL Crash Prevention Limited are creating an emergency descent arrest systems for VTOL aircraft, particularly during vertical phases of flight.  We are looking for a Ph.D qualified candidate to carry out a major R&D programme that is in their field of interest and establish themselves as a potential MD of the company.

Funding is subject to a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship grant application being made by the successful applicant as the grant covers the project and salary of the candidate.

The Role:

You will be leading the Research and Development of smart recovery parachute systems, that can recover an emergency aircraft descent to a determined landing co-ordinate;  also the development of rocket motor effectors for rapid deployment of recovery parachutes, and to provide emergency lift to the host aircraft.  Working together with leading ballistic parachute company, ASR-Pioneer, you will be developing an emergency landing recovery system for VTOL aircraft, which combines with crash-worthy fuselage, landing-gear and seat systems to provide a full ‘zero-zero’ safety system.

The Candidate:

We are looking for high level PhD candidates with a substantial post-PhD R&D track record, who are interested in pursuing/leading the R&D in either of the company activities outlined, based partly at the Company headquarters in Derby and partly at the University.  Remote working is also a possibility, as is part-time and flexible working, with on-site work required for testing and development.

Skills Required:

  • Good organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and also as part of a close knit diverse team
  • Existing experience of aeronautics and parachute systems
  • Budgeting and administrative skills (although we are happy to support the development of these skills for the right candidate)
  • Proven experience of leadership skills
